Live on Pigeon Lake, in beautiful Bobcaygeon, where the constellations reveal themselves one star at a time. (sound familiar?)With my wife Kathy and golden retriever Star. Living the young retired dream, in a life style community with a bunch of old fart's. You know what, old fart's stink. One thing that's for sure still have my senses :-) Thanks big guy. It doesn't seem like that long ago, I'm in the school yard listening to Roy Orbison on a 6 transistor radio, kissing my first girl friend. Yes life is good, but time waits for no one. I guess you can tell by now I'm drinking Rum + Coke. Thank you, good night and God bless.
never forget the day, I first heard her

I'm back

Well a year has gone by since my first post, and seven months since my last. I guess it's true, time really does fly. Remembrance Day, thanks to all those who served, I bow my head to you.  As well, it's also my Dad's birthday who could forget?  He would have been 97.  Yes, he was born 11-11-11; and I still think that's cool.

Well, anyway, I'd like to make this short.  I've been working every day cleaning up the bush around the cottage.  I built a wonderful little workshop out of the material I salvaged from removing the dock from out of the lake.  All in all, it was one incredible amount of work.  So many things to do and, me being me, I had three or four things on the go at one time and a great big mess in between each project.  So anyway, things are very well cleaned up, and the place looks better than it's ever looked before.  I'm now way deep into the bush where my long lagoon pathway has now become almost 100 feet wide.  Yes, I really think it looks fantastic.

Tomorrow I begin framing what I'm going to refer to as "the fort".  In a nutshell, it's basically about 12 or 14 feet in diameter and will have five large points extending out of it so that essentially it will look like either the sun or a star.  Yes, that's what I think I'm gonna do and I really hope that I get back with another post some day soon.

P.S. I do have photo's of my summers progress and you can see those on my lovie's space.

Peace

One More Thing

How could I forget, it's all so Easter this week, yes one fine day today thank you.

One Fine Day

A lot feels good today, me for one spent hours on my feet. Nice to not be laying down almost 24 hours of the day. It's St. Patrick's Day, the sun shone bright with a daytime high of 0. Spring arrives this week, the time has already changed. Today I ordered my Nikon D80, oh boy in a few days she will be in my hands. Today I found out April 1 is just a pre op, not the day they stretch my ass out on the table, more fool me. Yes this has been an extra good day.

There's only about two feet of snow on the ground, a few more weeks and it's gone. Got a new bike and now can't wait for the next two months to pass. Really needed a new one a long time ago but had a hard time letting my old one go. Now that it's done I could not be happier, love the new one. Dual suspension, disc brakes front and back, 24 speed, a gel seat. Hope I can ride it, if not that's cool too because, I love just looking at it. You can love a bike without riding it right?

What else, yes bought a steak to BBQ have something to drink, sorry  Dr. M. what can I say, I am a bad bad boy. This is a great day, love life, my Toots and Star. Yes this is one fine day. Thank you Big Guy...

Never That Bad

suicidal-snowman Been around two weeks since last blog. Not a lot going on in this head, just the usual fog and ringing in the ears. Some pain the last few days but am getting quite good at laying around and doing nothing. Have three more weeks before the doctor has his way with me, somebody please help me. All right just fine, can do it no problem been through worse, going to be a big boy.

Winter continues snow just keeps coming, nothing but spring will stop it. Very happy I decided to embrace winter, because it's been one that won't be forgotten. The city workers' strike also seems to have no end in sight. This morning got the driveway cleared of the last storm, good another coming this weekend. Yes really do love winter.

Don't know how, the snowman got to the end of his rope. Maybe he can't face spring, or it's just been too much for him. He must be weak because if I can handle it, a snowman should be at his best. But what do I know, am not the one that's going to melt in a few weeks. No something else is going to happen, I'll just think of the snowman, because things are never that bad.

Down Shift

So he said it would take three weeks, the first week I got right off. The second week was a mess, needed to roost in my shelter, a lot of rest, felt a do nothingness. Now three weeks, it's happy days are here again this is just too good. Yes I like this, kind of like falling in love everything is beautiful, did I say happy days are here again. It's kind of like you're driving, step on the clutch down shift the rev's fall, feel the engine slip into mellow. Yes it's good, it's good yes.

The best part is I can even dance better now, right into the wee hours. Music sounds better, you got to sing it like you mean it. Everything is better, it's good to feel good. This has to be seventh heaven man, yes the big abode doing fine on cloud nine. You know Ben E King did a real neat version of Moon River, I liked Spanish Harlem.

Anyway time marches on, nice to see the sun set at six and not around four. Can almost feel the earth tilt to the south, see the warm sun high above. What a great difference a few hours more of sunlight can make. The eclipse, clear sky that was good, yes happy days.  Been one cold winter and a lot of snow, but have a sense of harmony. Yes this is a good trip, only took three weeks, that's just what he said.

Through The Fog

During illness you are given pills, now that should take care of it. No not so simple there's always more complications, some physical some mental. Time can be the only cure, but along comes something else. Just can't win, it's never just that easy.

On good days have to know it's for you and yours to be enjoyed. There are no others why would they matter, it's their chatter. True not everyone, can be as good as some think of themselves. For to think that way, just have to be better, easier to look down that way.

Got to get on and enjoy the best of days, those are the times that really count. Been through the mill, can't let anything get me down. Going to stand my ground, will not frown. Nothing but ones own, that's what was dealt, that's what's felt. Yes one life just once around, nothing going to get me down. Day by day through the fog, things will be much better.

True Love Never Dies

On this day mom, I light a candle for you. My eyes have still not dried, the years go by. A mother like no other, your love will never be forgotten. You were always there, there was nothing you would not do. Kind to all people, a constant smile, the simple pleasures that was you. You worked hard every day and did not complain, even though you felt great pain. I know you're gone, but can still feel you at my side. I sometimes think, I see you in a crowd, I've seen your face in the clouds.

I can still hear you sing Elvis' Wooden Heart, the aroma of fresh baked goods filled our house. Christmas your face lit up when you sang Silent Night, you knew the German parts so well. The love I have for you is never ending, my heart is slowly mending. Tears in my eyes memories never die, time just goes by.

February 05

Just Another Day

Having a melt down today temperature of 4, nice to lose some snow. The rains will wash the roads clean, much better for Star's feet. Too bad more snow again tomorrow, got to shovel you know that's trouble. Nothing going on other than my daily routine doing good time, that's just fine. Drinking coffee and playing with spaces.

Politicians?  Have to wonder how some things can really be. It was found necessary, to have all the dots removed from name plates on doors. That's one heck of an idea, who noticed that what is the issue. Don't know if that was the Fed's or the provincial no difference. I love to pay taxes, and would be happy to pay more, if it went to all the right places. It would be good for all people.

If you were working for me, soon you would find yourselves standing at a bus stop. Hey that's me don't you see, we need to revisit this issue. With time I think it would be resolved that the dot's should be put back. Yes back where they belong, yes get back Joe. The letters should also be touched up to match, they should not clash. Yes it's just another day.

What's In The Cards

Life is kind of like a poker game, the game of life you know it. With both it's not what you have, but how you play. Wait and see what comes next, go slow or make a move. Have to take chances there's wins, losses, walks, races, good luck and bad luck, that's life. Always pause look around, there's a lot to see feel your senses, know your limit.

Funny there's 52 cards the number of weeks, twelve picture cards the months, four suits the seasons.  Thirteen cards in a suit, number of week's in a quarter. Three hundred sixty five is the number of spots in a deck, that's a year. There's even a way, of laying them out to represent each day of the year. Mine is the nine of diamonds, my wife the queen of hearts. Queen of hearts very true, proof there's something in this nonsense, ha ha.

I like the soldiers prayer book; ace is God, 2 old+new, 3 father sun+holy ghost, 4 Mathew Mark Luke+John, 5  wise virgins, 6 the creation, 7 day of rest, 8 people after flood Noah+family, 9 of ten did not say thanks, 10 the commandments, king one king in heaven, queen Virgin Mary, jack the devil.

The first deck of cards goes back to 1392, Charles of France put it together. He was the king, they say he was insane. That I don't know. Back then there were darker meaning associated, where face cards put together, was a secret language. No won't get into that, the big guy is my friend, that I know.

A deck of cards is like a bible, calendar and life in some ways, big deal. But must wonder when will spring arrive, can the ground hog's prediction be believed. That has to be nuts, we already have the calendar. Spring arrives third week of March, and warm temperatures weeks later. Had enough of snow, cold and darkness and know others have too. Really must get out of this winters den, days outside in the warm spring sun, green grass again. Yes I like poker and life too, it's something to do. Really, really need something to do.

Cashing In

Funny how past memories come creeping in, out of the blue in almost everything you do. Yesterday returned my empty's and felt guilty, should not drink I know. Never had that feeling, after collecting and cashing in pop bottles as a kid. Playing life like a foolish game, years fly by they do that's true, ain't nothin' you can do.

Memories can be haunting or a blessing it depends on what you did, and what you do. Moments in life not to be forgotten, can't be wrinkled by time they creep in often. Paying attention to the chatter in my head, there is no escape only time. Why does it matter, that chatter.

Each day is complete, you can say that about a life too. The end of the day, thinking how did I do. What were the things to be grateful for, and the things to be ashamed for. Lennon said life is what happens, while you make other plans. He sang, there are places I'll remember all my life though some have changed, some for ever not for better, some have gone and some remain. That's what I do, God I wish I wrote that.

The past is always part of the present, a way of holding on. It's easy to think about the past, but what about today. I must be thankful for today, it's really the most important moment in my life. Yes cashed in today, reflections are what I'm thankful for, and I close my eyes.

9250~Drink-Coffee-Posters Coffee is my shepherd, I shall not dose...

Another idea, thought I'll use this picture find a few coffee jokes and blog it. Great idea, what a smart guy you're on a roll, got something to do. About two minutes into "the great idea" what do I find? Yes you guessed it, this same picture, left click and what's there? I bet you guessed it again, coffee jokes.

So that's it, got nothing, nada, zilch, zippo, zero, wow three words in a row starting with "z". One good thing I now know what you call a cow that has just given birth: bet you can guess that to.

Lunar Eclipse

Oh boy there's a lunar eclipse Feb. 20 2008 10-11 PM, may the sky's be clear. The last one was Nov. 9 2003, had been living here for three weeks.

One good pastime, is looking up at the night sky. The picture of days setting sun still fresh in your mind, then twilight and slowly darkness, waiting for the night sky to come to life. Moon, planets, stars, satellites, planes and on those rare occasions Aurora Borealis. I should mention bats as well not baseball, but the flying type.

Watching the night sky, far from the city lights, a wonderful experience. The best experiences were at the cottage in Muskoka, absolute darkness. Living here the best view is down by the lake, with the town lights behind me, that's our darkest sky. Or very late after neighbours are in bed, finally it's lights out. For me outdoor lighting, in most cases is a form of pollution and trespass. Please let the cost of electricity continue to rise.

To spot planets, and the twelve zodiacal constellations flow the ecliptic line. If the sun has set and the moon is high that's the line. If there's no moon and you see two planets the line runs through the two. But hey you don't need to know that, just look up.

The next partial solar eclipse July 21 2009, full Aug. 21 2017. The last full solar was May 10 1994, never forget that day. A dark day, my father left home for the last time, he still had to suffer 11 more days. I was in the back yard feeling empty during time of eclipse, the most surreal moment's of my life. Many suns and moons have risen since, the world continues to turn.

So can't wait till summer, hope to even get the telescope out. The winter sky's fine, but it sure is cold outside. A hot summers night, iPod, cold beer, lawn chair, yes that's for me, it wont be long now.

January 27

Turning Pages

Spent most of this day reading, drinking coffee another lazy Sunday. Thumbed through a few books and yesterdays paper. Mick once sang who want's yesterdays paper? Maybe someone who hadn't read it. The date may have changed, but it's still new new's to me. New new's that sounds funny.

Thomas Jefferson said. The man who never looks into a newspaper, is better informed than those that read them. He who knows nothing is far nearer the truth, than the mind filled with falsehood's and errors. Some of that may be true, but I'm still having trouble with that one. Far nearer what's that, there's far and there's near. To be close to the truth is to know something, how can it be know nothing.

I think that what we believe is shown in the things we stand for, and our weakness in the things we fall for. Back to the couch for me, still have a need to read. True or false don't care, just wasting time it's something to do.

Yellow Brick Road

My new favourite song, by Raine Maida.

I remember the days we talked for hours

And we were young; we thought we had superpowers

We kissed the sky, expanded our minds, thought we could fly

We were dreamers, and we'd never die

We were young punks but we showed potential

Us against the world, we weren't sentimental

We weren't our problems, our age or our paychecks

And we weren't taking anybody's sh..

If I knew now what I knew then, I'd

Back up do it all again, I'd

Take a bow, take it real slow

Take a ride down the yellow brick road

Come on, come on wise up

The winters were cold but we had your parents basement

This underground was for sinners and we embraced it

Magic pills, fairy tales, Syd Barrett's ghost

Oh, we'd all get on that spaceship

We measured our lives in coffee spoons

And those Friday nights quickly turned into Sunday afternoons

We weren't our money, our muscles or our regrets

We were having a mere life experience

I remember the days when we talked for hours

And we were young; we thought we had superpowers

We want our problems, our age or our paychecks

And we weren't taking anybody's sh..

Road Trip

We did it, drove to Lindsay yesterday finally got off the rock. A great big blue sky and wonderful clouds, the countryside covered in pure white snow. Just love to see all of the different farm animals. Stopped to watch some horses running and interacting with one another, wow.

While Kathy got a hair cut, I went to Blacks and fell in love with the Nikon D80. What can I say, she is beautiful and very sexy. Talking about the camera here, stay focused. No did not bring her home, thought it better to want a little longer. Went to the book store, got Digital Photography for Dummies. That should keep me occupied for a few weeks, the camera can wait it's cold outside, really cold.

Met up with lovie, she was happy with her cut and that's good. Went back to Blacks, so she could see my Nikon. Kathy and the sales person were ready to do business. No sometimes it's better to wait, have a new book to read. The store, camera and sales guy will still be there next time. Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder. Sure was great to get away for awhile, it can be a wonderful world out there. But really there's no place better than home.

January 23

Oxymoron's

Deafening silence while sitting alone together, a real fantasy, almost exactly clearly confusing. Then a short distance away a small crowd were listening to original copies, in random order, of soft rock. Finally, the last song at slow speed came to a rolling stop, again a thunderous silence. Some thought it awfully good and approximately equally others thought it pretty ugly.

Then decided to get some jumbo shrimp, strong decaf, and listened to rap music. Sat and discussed recent history, constant change, new antiques and old news. We were quite amused to see city workers doing a good job, placing a concrete pad and safety hazard sign on a sanitary sewer. Yes another bitter sweet day, a lot of nothing to do.

January 22

Weather

We have weather everyday, that's good because without it I would have very little to talk about. The best part it's different from day to day. It's snowing a lot more than what's being reported on our local radio today. Guess our weather guy has no window, too bad because his report needs updating.

Looking out my window, I now know it's time to shovel again. That's good, have something to talk about, fresh air, and exercise too. Another day here ok, almost a month now on this rock, going to town someday soon.

January 21

Don't Know

There's not a lot to see, in a small town. But what you hear, makes up for it. Nobody's business, but sure takes up a lot of ones day, that's funny.  All who tell it add something new, those who hear it do too, that's funny.

Everything is funny, as long as it happens to someone else. A sense of humour, is what makes you laugh at something, which would have make you mad if it had happened to you. Sometimes it can be a difficult thing to like someone else's idea of being funny.

Two things that are not funny. Sitting in the doctors office, wondering why it's called a practice. Sitting in the investment counsellors office, wondering why he's called a broker. Funny is bottled lemon juice containing artificial flavour and dish soap contains real lemons.

The funniest thing learned today, the first four signs of aging: forgetting names, forgetting faces, forgetting to zip up, forgetting to unzip. But then again, maybe that's not funny at all.

Yes, every cloud has a silver lining and every dog does have his day. But the man in the moon, only has his day in the sun during an eclipse. So that's it once again for me today the sun shone bright, I laughed yes a funny day today. Sometimes it happens that way.
